ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

The Institute of Technical Acoustics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus  (until 1994 - the Vitebsk Department of the Institute of Solid-State and Semiconductor Physics) was established on September 25, 1975 in accordance with the Resolution of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR No.140 on the basis of three academic institutions (Physical-Technical Institute, Institute of Physics, Institute of Solid State Physics and Semiconductors) and was the first research institute in the Vitebsk region.
The first director Vladimir V. Klubovich played a key role in the organization and development of the Institute. V.V. Klubovich - an outstanding scientist in the field of metals processing technologies, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Laureate of the State Prize of the BSSR, the Honored Scientist of the Republic of Belarus. V.V. Klubovich was a founder of the world-famous scientific school in the field of ultrasonic processing of metals and alloys. The fundamental studies on the influence of ultrasound on the physico-mechanical properties of metals and alloys were carried out; technological processes for the processing of metals and polymeric materials by applying ultrasound were developed and implemented. The State Prize of the BSSR in 1984 for a series of works ‘Development of the scientific basis for the application of high power ultrasound in technological processes of processing materials".
Scientific and scientific-technical activities of the Institute correspond to the priority areas of basic and applied research of the Republic of Belarus and the Vitebsk region.

Scientific Directions of the Institute:
- Investigation of concentrated energy flux effect on condensed media and physical processes.
- Development of methods and technologies for obtaining of different functional and special purpose materials.

The Institute conducts fundamental and applied research in the fields of semiconductor physics, magnetoelectric phenomena, ultrasonic vibrations, thermoelastic phase transformations and others within the framework of state research programs, the regional scientific and technical program “Innovative development of the Vitebsk region”, republican and international projects of the Belarusian Republican Foundation for Fundamental Research, individual projects and grants.
The Institute carries out the international scientific and technical cooperation within the framework of bi-lateral cooperation agreements in science and technology with foreign educational and research organizations in Russia, Ukraine, Armenia, Lithuania, Germany, Portugal, Turkey, Egypt, the USA, China, Vietnam, India etc.
A Branch Office of the Republican Centre for Technology Transfer is established in the Institute.
The Republican Center for Ultrasonic Technologies operates on the basis of the Institute. It is an interdisciplinary science and technological center for advanced scientific research.
In 2015 the Institute was listed on the Board of Honor of the Vitebsk region as the winner of the competition among organizations engaged in research development activities.
